Another beautiful afternoon spent at Dosa 818, their 8000 square foot exhibition space on Broadway in downtown Los Angeles.

A benefit for the Chez Panisse Foundation, 40% of proceeds were donated to the Edible School Yard project.

A lovely talk by Alice Waters and Christina Kim. Great food and wine, lovely clothes and interesting people.

Nelson Sepulveda, came from Paris, lived in the space for a few weeks to display the space.

Many years ago some friends and I had the idea that we would love to see more of the great residential architecture in the city. We further thought that going tours was not nearly as fun as hanging out with friends over cocktails.

This is how RASH (for "Residents of Archticturally Significant Houses"). It was such prententious concept so a really rediculous acronym was really important.

When Christine Nichols, close friend and art dealer asked if I would revive RASH and help her host a cocktail party at the Buck House i couldn't resist.

Currently occupied by gallery Country Club projets, the party celebrated the close of the inaugeral exhibition of works by Charley Harper.

Further photos and info about the house will be forthcoming. Open by appoitment Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays I highly recommend the art and the building.

That's me - leading the breakaway down PCH against a pretty gnarly headwind. Steve Mattson behind. He and Molly went the additional 35 miles and did the real century.

Really nice event. Put together by the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles in support of their "Fed Up With Hunger" campaign and sponsored by Tofurky, among others.

Can't wait to do it again next year. You have to love Southern California for being able to ride like this in the middle of October (or the beginning of the month of Cheshvan depending on how you look at it). Our main worry was it being too hot. We had a lot of cloud cover and it was really beautiful.

TEAM OK - NEW MOON CENTURY

A metric century to help end hunger with a bunch of vegan Jews (don't ask) in celebration of the first new moon of the Jewish New year (again, don't ask - am not so much "a Jew" as I am "Jewish")

Another great house shown included in the MAK center tour. Craig Ellwood's Moore House from 1964-1965.

In the hills just below Griffith Park the site could be the best thing about (even though it is a great house).

Looking a lot like a a wood-clad version his design for art center, just a raised rectangular box, which contrasts nicely with all the trees and vegetation.

A multi-unit complex in Silverlake. This building can really ruin you for typical apartment buildings or condos. Each unit is offset from the next, giving privacy and a private yard.

Really interesting innovations include sliding panels that align with a blank wall in living room then move to close off an area into a separate room.

The great thing on this tour was seeing multiple units. Spaces are small, but well lit and usable. All the various tenants seemed to put in great storage solution.

harwell hamilton harris - alexander house

Built in 1941 this house has for many years been my absolutely favorite house in Los Angeles.

Another early modernist inspired to architecture by FLW, his and a strong Japanese influence are present throughout. Every room has an outdoor terrace for true indoor/outdoor living.

I was working at Domestic Furniture when the current owners commisioned Roy McMakin to design some furniture for the house. Was really happy to see it is still their and aging well.
