I have no way of knowing if you all are as tired of deer-heads, antlers, pelts and taxidermy that you/I/we see all over Silverlake/Brooklyn/Portland etc.
Well, here is the real thing. John Solomon who inhabits the Richard Neutra designed Taylor house (see photo set below) sent me this email. He says this lovely animal has been there every morning for the last three days looking in.
Not stuffed, not plywood, not lucite, not bent wire, not plaster, not silkscreened. An actual deer. Nice.

Cool Houses In My Neighborhood Vol. 2 - Micheltorena St
Beautiful Silverlake. These are the modern homes of Micheltorena. The opposite side of the hill from me (aka the high rent district). Rudolph Schindler, Gregory Ains, Harwell Hamilton Harris, John Lautner and others (including a couple of great houses by architects I've never heard of).
My good friend "Whisky Ted" threw a lot of great cocktail parties in that wooden house that cantilevers over it's carport.
Will do a little research and identify more of the houses. Only posted the names of ones i have visited.
John D. Williams - House
Wow! What a great house. Easily one of the nicest on the block! But then again, I’m a bit biased, consider my wife and I own it! For those who are interested, the home was built in 1959 by an architect named John D. Williams. His office was at 5190 West Washington Blvd, in Culver City. I’ve never heard of him, but if anyone has any information on him I would surely love to have it. Perhaps he designed some other homes in the area?

Words and Photos by Aya Muto
Takeshi Sekizawa would appear with both his hands full of flowers and weeds, giving them equal affection, on any given day. Through the spring and the summer that I have had a chance to be around, Takeshi kept up his mischievousness, by leaving seasonal offerings in and around the house he humbly refers to the act as "Busho Ikebana". The lazy school of ikebana in other words not conforming to any style of flower school. Talented calligrapher, photographer and accordion player this third generation potter attends to his house and his garden as well as to his kiln along with his family in Mashiko.

Source - Tokyo - Japan April 2007
Definitely the best new design / lifestyle store in Tokyo. Shinji worked for Play Mountain for many years. Like so many of us his obsession with architectural design furniture and objects has led him into a more natural but no less clean and minimal direction.
He is producing his own line of simple low-key jewelry but also carries many of the jewelers i do. Margeret Solow of Nightingale, Carla Caruso, Lena Skadegard, Melissa Joy Manning and others.
A must visit. He is closed on Wednesdays.

Wall Sculpture 1 by Cirilo Domine
Now living in Japan Cirilo is an artist whose medium and methods resemble many of the commercial or traditional handicrafts from his native Phillipines.
He did these pieces while living in Los Angeles. He will show new work at Barnsdall Art Park in September.

Osaka - Architecture - Church of the Light Tadao Ando
You can't really tell anything about Ando's architecture from photos or descriptions. They are all about the space, proportion and light. Like most really great architecture, the structure, however beautiful (and they are beautiful) is nothing - the spaces themselves really amaze.
Osaka Store - Graf
Shigeki and Company produce a range of their own furniture. In keeping with most modern Japanese furniture stores they have a cafe on an upper floor.
Osaka Store / Cafe - Dieci
Dieci in Osaka - First of their two stores. This one has a lovely cafe. Obsessed by Scandinavian design (strangely even more than I am). Definitely the best selection of Nordic design available in Japan and possibly the best anywhere outside of Scandinavia. And yes, she is as nice as she appears to be in the photo.
Things Lying About The House
Just part of my fascination with things. I wouldn't say I was so much of a collector as a bit of an accumulator. Living for so many years in a 450 square foot place, it is only natural that I am interested in small things. Here are some of those things ......
