Kaj Franck Glass - Finland

My favorite kind of design. On first glance, they don't really look like anything. Look again, you see something beautiful. Continue to look, they amaze. Simple, understated, elegant, perfect.

Rosecut Sapphire Rings from Golconda

A jewelry historian as well as designer, Reema from Golconda jewelery in New York starts with beautiful old-style cut stones and makes jewlery that looks modern today but would not have been out of place a thousand years ago.

Here are some rosecut sapphires backed with platinum foil (silver backing is more typical but can tarnish over time). Also a recent shipment of diamonds ready to be be set into her next collection.

Really beautiful.

Teruo Kinoshita Wood Sculptures

In Kanazawa, in a Quonset hut, by the train tracks, at the edge of town ..... Wood sculptor Teruo Kinoshita produces these amazing abstract wood sculptures. We just received the best shipment of his work to date.

Having originally seen his work in Tokyo, I was unable to find anyone who could help me find this artist. My friend Nomura has a wonderful store in Toyama and has a wonderful store in Toyama and was able to hook me up. I definitely recommend a visit to this part of Japan. Great food (especially the donburi), a famous medieval garden, Sanaa's Museum of 21st Century Art and the "Ninaja Castle".
